Infrared inspection helps to prevent failures on equipment

Blackouts by short circuit or mechanical failures on equipment can cause operation interruption or shut down. It may cause troubles for producers and endanger safety of operators. However, one method can detect potential threat areas without operation interruption or shutdown of electric power supply to the equipment.

Infrared inspection enables us to see, measure and record anomalies uncovered by heat, which can not be seen by human eye because of its disability to see in the infrared spectrum. Thermocamera with high resolution works with professional software for heatfilter shots analysis. Its unique feature is the infrared radiation detector, which can contactless measure the surface temperature of various objects, devices, things etc.


This method is used in the scope of accredited testing laboratory also by Technický skúšobný ústav Piešťany, š.p. „We use this infrared camera for detection of technical heat characteristics and insulation quality of buildings, houses, operation premises and stores. It helps us also by testing of insulation of boxes and air-conditioning units of transport equipment used for the transport of perishable foodstuffs. The producer or forwarder can prevent various types of failures," says Mr. Igor Kadlec from Technický skúšobný ústav Piešťany, š.p.

Check up of electric fuseboxes by the infrared camera prevents interruption of operation and damages on equipment. This can reduce time loss in operation and save health or lives of operators.

This method is really useful in industry by routine check of electrical equipment. The camera can work in operation and under high voltage. Temperature differences measured on wires and connectors can be used as records to optimalize the load of electrical power network. The records can help also by safety-checking and fire prevention of electrical equipment.

Another field of application is the maintenance of mechanical systems as bearings of pumps, motors, fans, compressors (detection of deterioration or week lubrication), location of coolants and blocking elements leakage in heating systems etc.

According to the results of selection precess, on 23th August 2010 Ing. Ján Matuška was appointed to the function of General Director of TSU Piešťany by President of Slovak Office of Standards, Metrology and Testing.
